Why are black women the largest unmarried group in the United States of America?

Most people have no idea the level of disrespect that black women endure. Just take one look at the domestic violence rates and how many married black women end up dead at the hands of their husbands. I used to hear my aunt being beaten every single day and no one even called the police. My God mother was killed by her husband, my aunt was shot 11 times in her back by her husband, my cousin was stabbed and set on fire by her husband. These things are not rare. We are the victims of violence more than any other demographic.

Domestic Violence About 45% of Black women experience physical, sexual, or stalking violence in their lives, and 51% of Black female homicides are related to intimate partner violence. Black women also face public stigma, silence, and victim-blaming around domestic violence, which can make it harder for them to get help.

Between 1999 and 2020, Black women were six times more likely to be murdered than white women, and in 2020, they were more than seven times more likely in the Midwest. According to the Lancet, the homicide rate for Black women ages 25–44 increased by 73% between 2014 and 2020.

Ive been pretending to be okay and acting as normal as possible, but Im actually completely heartbroken after a recent breakup. Its painful and really affecting me, to the point where I cant concentrate at work, Ive lost my appetite, I cant sleep, and It feels as if my whole world has been turned upside down. I loved him so much. He said so many cruel things to me and it made me realize he must not have loved me the way I loved him, or he wouldnt have said such horrible things. How do I handle the heartbreak and why cant I accept that he didnt love me and just forget about him?

The thing I would encourage people to do is not look at another persons life through your own lense. We all have different lived experiences.
